Der englischsprachige Abend der Kölner Sprechbar verband persönliche Geschichten mit praktischen Hinweisen zur interkulturellen Kommunikation. Neben Grammatik und Wortschatz zählen passende Höflichkeitsstrategien, wenn Menschen in einer anderen Kultur um etwas bitten.
on Wednesday we enjoyed an evening full of entertaining anecdotes, personal stories and practical hints relating to the topic of intercultural communication. How can you enhance your intercultural communication? – Make sure you have a solid knowledge of the host culture language’s grammar and vocabulary. – Top your language skills up with the appropriate verbal politeness strategies for making requests.
Gestures, Distance and Unwritten Rules
Auch nonverbale Muster spielen eine wichtige Rolle: Gesten können in einer Gastkultur anders oder sogar beleidigend wirken, und ungeschriebene Regeln bestimmen den angemessenen körperlichen Abstand.
– Be mindful of your own and the host culture’s nonverbal communication patterns. – Be aware of your gestures. Some might be offensive or have a different meaning in the host culture. – Make sure you are aware of a culture’s unwritten rules regarding physical proximity.
Awards and Thanks
Tilman wurde für die beste vorbereitete Rede ausgezeichnet, Gast Cindy für die beste Stegreifrede, Anne Kathrin für die beste Bewertung und Norvisi für die beste Verwendung des Wortes „peculiar“. Besonderer Dank galt vier Gästen, die spontan Rollen übernahmen.
