Review of our Toastmasters evening on 06.05.2026

On 06.05.2026, the Kölner Sprechbar enjoyed a colourful and inspiring Toastmasters evening in Köln. The motto of the evening, “Plant the Seed of an Idea”, accompanied the whole meeting and gave the evening a fresh spring feeling. 🌱

8 members and 4 guests joined the meeting. One of the guests was Peter from the club Rheinredner, who delivered his prepared speech “The Disregarded Language”. Unfortunately, he was 20 seconds over the maximum speaking time, but his contribution still added a valuable prepared speech to the evening.

Sarah M. introduced the word of the evening: “curious”. It was a very fitting word for a club evening focused on communication, public speaking, feedback and the joy of discovering new ideas. Evgeniya was awarded for the best usage of the word in her Table Topic speech. 🎤

Meral delivered the tip of the evening: take a role for the evening. Her message was clear and important: taking an active meeting role is one of the best ways to grow at Toastmasters. It helps members practise leadership, improve communication skills, build self-confidence and learn how to speak freely in front of an audience.

Aleksandr and Kristof showed that they are true masters of Table Topics and evaluations. Aleksandr inspired 7 members and guests with creative Table Topics questions. Sarah M., Julia, Evgeniya, Leon and the guests Andrea, Maya and Gabriela shared ideas, solutions and advice in their impromptu speeches. The audience learned which car brand might suit the month of May, what “mayish” could mean, which new law might appear in May, how to create a feeling of spring and how to experience special sensations while eating in Germany. 😊

Aleksandr won the award “Hammer of the Evening” for his championship as Table Topics Master. Kristof won the award for Best Evaluation Speech with his very specific feedback on all 7 speeches. 🏆

Sarah B. supported the evening with grammar tips and time management. Kristof also assisted as ballot counter.

Thank you to all members and guests for a fresh, colourful and inspiring spring evening in May. The Kölner Sprechbar continues to be a place where people can practise public speaking, lose fear, develop rhetoric skills, learn through feedback and grow together as a supportive speech club.
